KELOWNA, B.C. – The Kelowna Minor Lacrosse Association held a learn-to-play event Wednesday night, drawing new players as young as 4-years-old.
“The younger the better,” said club president Kenneth Gallinger. “It’s where you build the association from, is the youngest kids.”
“Most times you get a stick in your hand, you’re here for life. Lacrosse is one of those games, it’s in your blood.”
Lacrosse is Canada’s official national summer sport and why the Kelowna Kinsmen Club donates thousands of dollars to ensure Kelowna’s league is prepared to help kids.
“The younger the kids are in sport, the healthier they are through out life,” said Scott McKinnon with the Kelowna Kinsmen Club. “It teaches them a lot of things like teamwork and community involvement, which is what Kelowna Kinsmen’s always about.”
While some believe lacrosse to be too aggressive a sport, the rough play is what draws many to the game.
