SASKATOON – The province’s registered nurses are meeting to discuss their stalled collective bargaining process and the media are not invited. Members of the Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) met at Saskatoon’s Prairieland Park Wednesday.
After seven months, collective bargaining with the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations (SAHO) reached an impasse.
At issue is a proposal to change how nurses call in additional staff to the workplace.

On Wednesday an assigned independent mediator, Richard Hornung, ordered both sides not to talk to the media, according to a spokesperson. Hornung has imposed a “media blackout” around further negotiations because he believes it’s in the best interests of both parties and the mediation process.
SUN members are expected to reconvene at Regina’s Conexus Art Centre Thursday.
