GRAND FALLS, N.B. – Food processing company McCain Foods is temporarily closing one of its plants in New Brunswick due to a potato shortage.
Its facility in Grand Falls will shut down one production line on Sunday and the other on July 1.

Calla Farn, vice-president of public relations for McCain Foods, says bad weather in the spring caused a shortage of potatoes, leading to the temporary shutdown.
About 120 workers will be affected, though about 30 of them will be transferred to other areas.
The remaining workers will go through training while the plant is closed.
Farn expects the plant to reopen when the potato harvest begins, either in late August or early September.
