Monday was a beautiful and mild February day, reminding many Vancouverites of the weather the city experienced during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Matt MacDonald of Environment Canada says temperatures have been higher than normal for this time of year.
“We broke a few temperature records last week and we’ll be flirting with a few more come tomorrow and particularly Wednesday,” he said.
“As we get towards the end of the month of February and we calculate all the totals, February might just be a record-breaking month in terms of temperatures.”
At GardenWorks in North Vancouver, sales are brisk thanks to the balmy conditions.
Erin Winchur of GardenWorks says customers are especially interested in growing vegetables, which have gotten much pricier lately.
“A lot of people are stressed out about the cost of food,” she said.
But is the warmer weather here to stay?
MacDonald says warmer temperatures can be expected across Metro Vancouver and other parts of B.C. on Tuesday with temperatures five or six degrees higher than normal.
Heading into the latter half of the week there will be cloudy skies but “there are no big storms on the horizon.”
“We’ll probably have to wait until Saturday for any considerable precipitation,” he said.
