The Senior Men’s and Women’s Curling teams will be competing for the provincial titles from Thursday until Sunday.

Organizers say there are some big names in attendance and great competitors who have made huge contributions to the sport of curling over the years.

Curling fans will recognize several of the participants, including “Fast Eddie” Lukowich, a two-time Brier champion, who also won a world curling championship and represented Canada at the 1988 Olympic Games when curling was still only a demonstration sport.

Lukowich has also written four books on curling and was one of the initial founders of the TSN Skins Game.  He is also a co-founder of and former executive director of the World Curling Tour in addition to putting in time as a colour commentator for the tour.

Cathy King will also be in Coaldale this weekend. She is a former Canadian champion skip, world championship bronze medalist, and 2013 world senior champion. She competed in seven Scotties Tournament of Hearts, taking the gold once and silver twice, and was named to the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame in 2013.

Other notable competitors include Glen Hansen, Paul Gowsell and Terry Loblaw among others.

Even though Coaldale is a smaller town, the Coaldale Granite Club has already successfully hosted multiple provincial and national curling championships  in the past.

The Alberta Seniors Championships rotate throughout communities across the province.

Tickets for the event are available at the door: single draws are $5, day passes are $10, and full event passes are $40.
