MONTREAL – The City of Montreal is giving itself the proverbial pat on the back for infrastructure work conducted last year.
$445 million was spent on roads, tunnels, water and sewage pipes, as well as retention basins.
The city’s point-man in charge of infrastructure said 85 per cent of the city’s goals were met.
“Mission accomplished,” councillor Lionel Perez wrote in a press release.
Despite the record amount of money spent on infrastructure upgrades, it still fell short of the $523 million that was budgeted.
Of the $187 million budgeted for 142 km of road repairs in Montreal, the city spent $180 million on 132 km.
To fix water and sewage pipes, including reservoirs, the city spent $210 million of the budgeted $257 million and fixed 103.5 km of Montreal’s pipes – the goal was 104 km.
