British Columbia-based Pacific Coastal Airlines is hoping to cash in on the low Canadian dollar with a five day ‘BC On Sale’ promotion, which aims to tempt American visitors with a 25 per cent discount off select flights and fares across the province. The promotion starts today for travel between Feb. 26 and May 31.

Spencer Smith, Pacific Coast Airlines’ vice president of commercial services hopes this will encourage more visitors to B.C.

There’s never been a better time to explore British Columbia, and we hope to make that case with the launch of this new program.

Smith says they’re launching this promotion now because they’re already noticing an uptick in sales.

“We’ve noticed an increase in group inquiries so far this year and that could be an early indicator of an upward trend in leisure travel bookings,” he says. “The high U.S. dollar exchange rate is certainly piquing interest in Canadian destinations south of the border and may also entice Canadian travelers to stay closer to home this year.”

Pacific Coast says B.C. had a record 9.4 million visitors in 2015, including 8.3 per cent more American visitors than in 2014. They say there’s every reason to believe this trend will continue as long the current imbalance between the Canadian and American dollar remains.

“As a local airline that flies to more than sixty-five destinations in the province of British Columbia, we are perfectly positioned to gain from the current situation,” says Smith.
