They say the car had run over a stop sign, gone through a ditch and wound up stuck in a hedge.

A few hours later, police say the car’s registered owner called to report it stolen.

An investigation led officers to believe that the woman had, in fact, been behind the wheel at the time of the accident and tried to cover it up by reporting a theft.

She’s now charged with public mischief and failing to report an accident and is due to appear in court in April.
