Montreal SWAT team subdues armed man in Ville Saint-Laurent

MONTREAL – The Montreal police SWAT team subdued a 65-year-old man brandishing a knife early Monday morning in Ville Saint-Laurent.

Police were called to an apartment on Ouiment Street around 12:20 p.m.

According to police, officers were called to the apartment to deal “with a man in crisis.”

“The man was difficult to understand because he didn’t speak French or English,” said Benoit Boisselle with Montreal police.

“He had a knife in his hand was threatening police. He did not appear to understand what officers were saying to him.”

The SWAT team was called in around 3:30 a.m. to negotiate with the man.

He was taken to hospital for a psychological evaluation and to treat minor injuries from cutting himself on a smashed window.

There was no one in the apartment at the time; there were no reported injuries.
