A Dartmouth boy is trying to raise enough money to get him a seat on an Avro Lancaster, a plane used during the Second World War.
“That wouldn’t just be fun for me, that would just be a privilege, like a total privilege. It would be like one of the most life-changing experiences I’ll ever have, I bet,” 10-year-old Euan MacDonald said.
With the help of his family, he held a bake sale at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth Saturday.
His fundraising campaign started last month via a bottle drive and crowdfunding website GoFundMe.
The goal is to get him a ride, which costs $3,500, on the bomber plane at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ont. At the time of this writing, $2,107 had been raised.
“It’s kind of like a dream of mine,” Euan said.
According to the museum’s website, there are only two of the planes remaining in the world that can still take to the skies.
“Through hard work and ingenuity, he is able to achieve that, and I think that’s a massive life lesson. It’s way more important to me than the actual flying of the Lancaster,” said Anne-Marie McElrone, Euan’s mom.
