Vancouver police have issued a warning to residents of the usually quiet Oakridge neighbourhood after two violent attacks on women.
Cst. Brian Montague says on Jan. 23 at 11 p.m., a 23-year-old woman left the Langara Canada Line station.
She was walking near West 48 Avenue and Manitoba Street when she was tackled from behind and thrown to the ground.
The woman screamed and the attacker ran back toward the Canada Line station.
Montague says the second incident occurred at 7 p.m. on Feb. 4.
A 67-year-old woman was walking on West 42 Avenue near Columbia Park when she spotted a man hiding behind a tree.
A short time later she was attacked from behind by the man, who punched her in the face and head. Police say she screamed and he ran away.
Montague says the suspect descriptions are similar, but they don’t know if it is the same person.
He is described as a white male, 30 to 40 years of age, slim and balding with short hair.
The motive is not known, but it might be robbery.
Montague says one of the victims suffered a broken orbital bone and both were traumatized.
He adds the attacks occurred in usually quiet residential neighbourhoods.
