A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in downtown Toronto’s Chinatown district that claimed the lives of two people two weeks ago.
David Eminess, 26, and Quinn Taylor, 29, were both fatally shot outside New Ho King Restaurant at Spadina Avenue and Nassau Street around 3 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 31.
Police have said the shooting was targeted but not tied to any gang activity.
Investigators say both victims were involved in an altercation with the suspect just prior to the shooting, which also injured three others.
The suspect has been identified as Kyle Sparks-Mackinnon, who was arrested on Thursday without incident.
He has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder.
Earlier this week, police released CCTV images of several persons of interest which they say directly led to the arrest.
“This is a classic case where the public stepped up. They gave us that information and that information was able to translate into evidence,” said Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders during a press conference Friday morning.
“We’re now here in a situation where we arrested somebody that decided to take a gun out and shoot five people.”

Saunders said the investigation is not over and are urging anyone who was in the area during the shooting to come forward with information.
“We arrested somebody and a lot of times what happens with these investigations people think, ‘OK. Someone is arrested. It’s over.’ It’s not over. There’s still pieces of the puzzle and in this specific case we’re looking for exactly what the cause of this was,” said Saunders.
