Police search for man who tried to rob Halifax credit union

Halifax police are looking for a man involved in an attempted robbery at a local credit union on Wednesday morning.

Police say the man entered the East Coast Credit Union on Kearney Lake Road around 10 a.m. and asked to cash a cheque.

When he was told the tellers do not have cash on site, he jumped over the counter and started to open drawers. He did not find any money and fled the bank on foot in the direction of Parkland Drive.

The suspect indicated he had a weapon, but witnesses say none was seen. He is described by police as a middle-aged white man with a beard who was wearing a dark toque, black gloves, a green or grey hoodie tucked into tan overalls and work boots.

Anybody with information is asked to contact Halifax Regional Police or Crime Stoppers.
