EDMONTON- The Edmonton Eskimos didn’t bring in any new faces on the first day of CFL free agency Tuesday, but a familiar one will be returning.
The Eskimos re-signed 24-year-old running back John White who missed the entire 2015 season after rupturing his Achilles tendon during training camp. In 2014, White rushed for 852 yards and was selected as a CFL All-Star.
Chris Jones, who coached the Eskimos to a Grey Cup in 2015 and is now head coach and general manager of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, poached a pair of his former players.
The Riders signed 26-year-old wide receiver Shamawd Chambers, who was voted the 2015 Grey Cup’s Most Outstanding Canadian, as well as 33-year-old offensive lineman Andrew Jones.
The Eskimos also lost wide receiver 25-year-old Kenny Stafford to the Montreal Alouettes. Stafford accumulated 732 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 2015.
