A newlywed Syrian couple has used the devastation of the war-ravaged city of Homs as a backdrop for their wedding photos, “to show that life is stronger than death.”
Last week, newlyweds Nada Merhi, 18, and Hassan Youssef, 27, took their wedding photos amongst the rubble of the heavily damaged city as photographer Jafar Meray used the destroyed buildings as a backdrop to highlight the stark contrast of love and war.
Agence France-Presse photojournalist Joseph Eid travelled along with the couple and photographer to document newlyweds’ special day.
According to The Washington Post, Meray told the AFP photojournalist that he wanted to use the war-torn city as the backdrop “to show that life is stronger than death.”
Photos show the bride dressed in a traditional white wedding gown and the groom dressed in military attire.
The Washington Post reported that Youssef is a solider for the Syrian army, the same military that dropped bombs on Homs in effort to rid the city of the occupying rebel groups.
