Depending on where they live in Shannon, some medical experts said they’re almost 25 per cent more likely to develop cancer.

Community leader Jean Bernier still doesn’t drink the tap water in his home near Quebec City.

The latest health and medical news emailed to you every Sunday.

He said trust will forever be broken after chemicals used to clean ammunition at the nearby army base caused hundreds of cases of cancer.

Residents have been fighting for nearly two decades for compensation.

Now, a doctor has released a report and residents are cautiously optimistic it will help them win their appeal.

“There’s hope,” said Bernier, vice-president of the Shannon Citizens’ Committee.

“There’s light at the end of the tunnel.”
