A Calgary woman has been arrested and charged after 14.5 kilograms of suspected methamphetamine was seized by Alberta border agents at the end of January.
The CBSA said this is the largest seizure of suspected methamphetamine in the last five years in southern Alberta.
The drugs were seized by the Canada Border Services Agency during a routine secondary examination of an SUV at the Del Bonita border crossing on Jan. 31. The CBSA said agents noticed inconsistencies with the vehicle’s rocker panels.
When the panels were taken apart, the CBSA said 14 packages of what they believed was methamphetamine were discovered.
“This enforcement is a prime example of the CBSA’s protection commitment to all Canadians. No matter how deep or sophisticated the concealment, our officers have the training, expertise, and perseverance to stop drugs at the border,” regional director general of the CBSA’s Prairie Region Kim R. Scoville said.
Season Truax has since been charged with importation and possession for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and smuggling under the Customs Act.
The 40-year-old made her first court appearance Friday morning in Lethbridge.
Last year, CBSA officers in southern Alberta made 87 seizures of narcotics or chemicals.
The CBSA said the drug was tested in the field but lab tests have not officially confirmed the substance is meth.
