SPCA’s big, honking goose looking for a home

WATCH ABOVE: The SPCA recently rescued a large goose, but is having trouble finding someone to adopt it. Global’s Billy Shields reports – Feb 6, 2016

MONTREAL — It weighs eight kilograms, requires a whole group of handlers to move around the SPCA, and eats mostly lettuce. Don’t put him next to men either – he doesn’t always like that.

Meet Sidney the goose. He’s resided at the SPCA for about two months now, and the organization is looking to place him in a home where he’d have access to a yard and a pond.

The inevitable question is, where does the SPCA find a goose, anyway? A citizen called the organization saying the bird was wandering around Montreal near Highway 40. He had some issues initially.

“He was very aggressive towards people,” SPCA spokesperson Anita Kapuscinska said.

But it’s possible Sidney could have been an ill-advised Easter present. The SPCA warns the public to think carefully before taking in an animal.

“He’s a lot of work!” Dominique Montreuil, his caregiver, said.

“He went from being a not so great goose to being a very good goose,” she said.

Sidney has made friends with bunnies and ducks. He also loves taking a bath. Montreuil said it’s possible she could take ‘Big Sid’ in after she’s trained him to behave better around people.
