RCMP say Stettler shooting was a random attack

RCMP have identified the suspect in a random shooting in Stettler on Monday as 31-year-old Dustin Goddu of Red Deer.

Goddu is believed to have shot 32-year-old Krista Dryden of Stettler as she was walking home along Highway 12.

Police say a man in a vehicle pulled up alongside her, and opened fire.

Dryden was airlifted to Foothills Hospital in Calgary. The severity of her injuries isn’t known.

Police located Goddu after the shooting but he then fled.

Officers later tracked him to the Coronation area where there was a standoff that lasted much of the day.

Goddu then took his own life.

He did not know his victim.
