TORONTO — Provincial police have charged a Brampton, Ont., man with first-degree murder after his wife was killed in a tractor-trailer fire near Sarnia.
Police say the body of 37-year-old Gurpreet K. Brar was found in the burnt-out truck around 3:15 a.m. Sunday on Highway 402 in Plympton, just east of Sarnia. The incident shut the westbound lanes on a stretch of the highway for nearly 12 hours.
Investigators say Gurpreet Brar was a passenger in the vehicle, while one other occupant managed to get away safely.
Charged is 50-year-old Sukhchain Singh Brar, who OPP say was Gurpreet Brar’s husband.
An OPP spokesman declined to say whether Sukhchain Brar was the second occupant of the truck, citing “evidentiary issues.”
Brar is due in a Sarnia court Thursday.
