MONTREAL- Weather conditions went from bad to worse Wednesday morning when a dusting of snow overnight quickly turned into freezing rain.
It was enough for Environment Canada to issue a warning.
According to Global’s traffic reporter, Debbi Marsellos, it wasn’t just the snow that was causing trouble, freezing rain meant dangerous, slippery conditions for everyone.
“We had a lot of slush, a lot of water accumulation afterwards so just a messy, messy drive,” she said.
“Parc Avenue had to close because northbound buses couldn’t go up the hill. It was just a sheet of ice.”
With the white stuff on the ground, traffic maps were all red.
“It was slow, but it was about an extra 20 minutes from the West Island,” said one motorist.
“I left this morning around 7 a.m. so my commute took just under an hour,” added a pedestrian on Saint-Antoine Street.
