“At this time, we still deem this as a suspicious death, because we cannot classify it as a homicide at this time,” Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm said. “We don’t have enough information.”

EMS were called to a home in the 400 block of Ranchlands Grove N.W. just after 10 p.m. Saturday for a check on welfare. Police said a family friend called police, as she hadn’t heard from Isaiah’s mother since Wednesday, which “raised concern.”

Three-year-old Isaiah Zoue was found dead in the home, and a woman was taken to hospital in stable, non-life-threatening condition. Police said Isaiah and his mother lived in the home, and don’t believe it was a random incident.

“We believe the incident happened in the family home,” Chisholm said. “The mother was in medical distress and she was taken to the hospital. As far as the exact condition she was in, I can’t comment on that at this time.”

Chisholm said police said it took “longer than they wished” to track down the boy’s father, who is not considered a person of interest in the case. Police said they’ve already spoken to some people, but continue to seek persons of interest.

He said police have attended the home before on unrelated matters. He said the investigation is not limited to the house.
