Abbotsford teenager hit by truck, driver facing charges of impaired driving

Abbotsford Police say one driver is responsible for two serious crashes that happened minutes apart this afternoon – one of which sent a young woman to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Around 4:30 p.m., a car was struck by a pickup truck at the Abbotsford Automall. The truck sped away, and then a short time later on Cardinal Avenue, the same truck hit a 19-year-old female.

The victim was pinned underneath the pickup truck and suffered serious injuries.

The 30-year-old driver remained at the scene of the second crash. He is now facing charges of impaired driving by drugs causing bodily harm.

Investigators would not say what kind of drugs is involved.

Abbotsford Police Cst. Paul Walker says the victim has made “remarkable progress” in the last 12 hours and is currently listed in stable condition.

“She is a fighter,” says Walker.

The woman is communicating with hospital staff and will likely make a full recovery.

No injuries were sustained by the driver involved in the first crash.

“We’re appealing to anyone who saw either the first collision, the second collision, or saw the driving behaviour of this pickup truck to come forward and speak to police,” says Walker.
