UPDATE: Police standoff involving 2-year-old near Fort St. John now over

A two-year-old child was unharmed after a day-long standoff in Fort St. John.

Police say they were dispatched to the house at Charlie Lake Sunday afternoon because of a domestic incident. The victim was able to escape the home, but the suspect and their son were still inside.

Several police squads and an ambulance surrounded the house, and Rimrock Road was blocked off to public access at Sunnyside Road.

An earlier attempt by police to reach the home failed, and police were asking the public to stay clear of the area.

Officers entered the residence again late Sunday evening and located a deceased man inside the home. The two-year-old child inside the home was unharmed.
