EDMONTON – Several blocks were closed to traffic Friday morning after a woman was struck and killed by a concrete truck in Edmonton’s core.
Police were called to a crash at 107 Street and 103 Avenue at around 10 a.m.
Police said a 49-year-old woman was crossing 107 Street in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by the truck, which was making a southbound turn onto 107 Street.
“Upon our arrival, we received information that the pedestrian was deceased,” EPS Insp. Joel Wittaker said
“We’ve called our Major Collision investigators out and they’re investigating,” he added.
The driver of the concrete truck was not injured.
Police do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing and charges have not yet been laid.
This is Edmonton’s second traffic fatality of 2016.
