Charges laid against Nova Scotia man in home invasion and shootout with police

TRURO, N.S. – An 18-year-old man in Nova Scotia faces several charges in connection with a home invasion that led to a shootout with police in Truro on Thursday.

Police say the Truro resident has been charged with break and enter, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, robbery with a firearm and assault with a weapon.

The man is in custody.

A unit tasked with dealing with serious incidents involving police is investigating the incident.

The Serious Incident Response Team says three Truro police officers were responding to a complaint about a home invasion around 6:30 a.m. Thursday when shots were fired.

Police say a 19-year-old suspect was struck when officers returned fire.

He remains in hospital.
