EDMONTON — Edmonton Transit’s new boss is looking to the future.

Eddie Robar has been on the job for just three weeks, but is already thinking about improving the transit experience for Edmontonians.

One of his priorities is the full roll out of the smart bus system and implementation of a smart fare system.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“Smart fare is something you’ll be hearing about in the next little while,” Robar said, “and looking at changing the way people pay for the system, making it more convenient, you know, electronic fare payment system to allow for an easier access to our assets.”

Robar is also facing a daunting task at trying to improve the LRT system.

Robar spent over a decade with the City of Halifax and while it’s a third of the size of Edmonton, he stressed the issues and concerns surrounding transit are similar.
