QUEBEC CITY – Three people were forced to jump out of their burning fourth floor apartment in Quebec City after a fire-truck ladder malfunctioned on Wednesday morning.
Richard Busque, who lives in an apartment behind the building, told Global News he could hear a woman screaming “give us a ladder.”
But the woman, a man and a 10-year-old boy were forced to jump because firefighters were unable to release a ladder up to them.

They were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The neighbour said the three victims were members of the same family, but officials would not provide confirmation.
The building’s 24 apartments was evacuated after police received multiple 911 calls at 4:55 a.m. Wednesday.

Residents could not immediately return home.
There were no other injuries.

A representative with the fire department told Global News the malfunctioning fire truck was taken in for inspection.
Investigators were on the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
