A 21-year-old Ohio man was caught on camera jumping over the side of an escalator while trying to escape police Saturday.
The suspect, Marcel Wallace, can be seen on surveillance footage jumping over the side of an escalator when he was cornered by officials. That’s when Wallace made his big escape only to have an unnamed officer try and hold onto one of Wallace’s leg to prevent him from getting away. The cop’s action was unsuccessful, leading to Wallace falling over the moving staircase – and landing on his head.
“As [Wallace] tried to go down the up escalator, there was a uniformed Miami Township police officer coming up the escalator,” Capt. John Magill of the Miami Township police said to WHIO News. “The officer tried to catch him, got a hold of his legs, tried to hold on to him…. The man kicked at the officer and fell [and] landed on his head.”

It all started when Wallace was caught switching price tags on three jackets at a local Macy’s store where his sister, Jessica Wallace, 19, worked as a cashier.

The coats were valued at over $600, but Wallace’s sister tried to cash them out for only $26 after her brother changed the tags.
Currently, the Wallace siblings are facing misdemeanor theft charges. But Capt. Magill said those charges could be upgraded.
“When you use force and flee and someone becomes injured, that could potentially be a felony,” Capt. Magill said to WHIO.
Jessica Wallace was arrested by police and taken to jail while her brother was brought to Kettering Medical Center for treatment.
Police are still investigating.
