STOUFFVILLE, Ont. – Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is examining the scene at a fatal crash that left one person dead.
The single-vehicle rollover occurred at around 2:20 Sunday morning near Hwy. 28 and Vandorf Sideroad.
According to the SIU, a York Regional Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle, but the driver refused and a pursuit took place.
The vehicle then veered off the road and crashed into a ditch.
A 30-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not identified the man.
Hwy. 48 is currently closed in both directions between Pine Vista Avenue and Bloomington Road.
The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates any interactions with police that result in sexual assault, serious injury or death.
