It will be more expensive for airline passengers to travel through Vancouver International Airport starting today.
The facility’s airport improvement fee now costs $5 more.
Passengers flying out of YVR now have to pay $20. Those flying within the province still have to pay a fee of $5.
The airport improvement fee came in 19 years ago, but was supposed to be ditched in 2002.
The new fee hike goes towards a ten-year, 1.8-billion dollar improvement project.
Authorities at YVR say the increase, automatically added to the cost of a ticket, is necessary to keep improving the airport.
