Mom abandons 11-year-old daughter at California store after shoplifting accusation

Police are searching for a California mother who allegedly told her 11-year-old daughter to “fight and run” when a retail store’s security guards accused her of shoplifting.

Rosalina Medina, 34, fled with an infant but left the other child behind and never came back, according to a police report. The incident occurred   Tuesday, Nov. 24 at a Target store in Daly City — just south of San Francisco.

Police report that guards saw Medina, who lives in Oakland, and her 11-year-old daughter filling a shopping bag with store items.

During the confrontation, Medina told officers they couldn’t arrest her 11-year-old. She then ordered her child to lash out when authorities ignored the claim and attempted to detain her. That’s when the girl bit a guard’s shoulder and Medina fled.

She did not return for the child. Police say she is still at large.

The girl was placed into child protective services.
