It happened around 8:30 p.m. on the outdoor basketball court at Prince Charles Elementary school, at 100th Avenue and 123a Street.

Surrey RCMP say the teenager was approached by two males before he was shot in the leg.

Upon further investigation, police now believe this was a targeted incident and part of a pre-arranged altercation that involved multiple young persons from two different groups.

The victim is not cooperating with police.

The investigation is still in its early stages, however, police say there is nothing to indicate that this incident was related to the city’s ongoing conflicts between those involved in the drug trade.

“Our officers will be working with the school district and parents of those who we believe are involved in this altercation to try to prevent these young persons from being involved in further incidents of this kind,” says Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann in a release. “This is also an opportunity for all parents and guardians to talk with their children about personal safety and being cautious of whom they associate with and the activities they are involved in.”
