EDMONTON – Alberta’s Liberals say it’s time to strike a new funding deal that treats municipalities like equals.
Party Leader Raj Sherman says his party is promising a new arrangement that would give municipalities more of a say in how they spend their infrastructure dollars.

He says there would also be separate legislation for Calgary and for Edmonton to allow them to deal with challenges unique to the two main cities.
Sherman says a Liberal government would also create a Municipal Heritage Fund to help pay those bills.
About $1.5 billion would be put into the fund every year from surplus oil and natural gas revenues.
The idea is to not spend the actual fund, but the interest it would generate.
