Tory Alice Wong wins close race in Richmond Centre

Incumbent is in a close race in Richmond Centre.

Conservative MP Alice Wong is projected to narrowly beat Liberal rival Lawrence Woo in Richmond Centre.

Wong has a lead of more than 400 votes with 175 out of 177 polls reporting.

NDP candidate Jack Trovato finished a distant third, with just 11 per cent of the vote.

A rapidly densifying riding, Wong is seeking a third term in Richmond Centre.

In the last election, Wong thumped her nearest challenger, Liberal candidate Joe Peschisolido, by 39.7 per cent.

Former Liberal MP Raymond Chan held this riding from 1993 to 2000, and again from 2004 to 2008—but otherwise Richmond has always elected right-wing parties, both federally and provincially.
