Dianne Watts elected in South Surrey-White Rock

Conservative candidate Dianne Watts has been elected in the riding of South Surrey-White Rock in B.C.

The former Surrey mayor took 44 per cent of the vote, beating out Liberal Judy Higginbotham, who finished with 41.5 per cent.

NDP candidate Pixie Hobby finished third with 10.4 per cent.

South Surrey-White Rock has long been considered a safe Conservative riding. Conservative MP Russ Hiebert, who has represented this area since 2004, decided not to run again.

This riding was previously known as South Surrey—White Rock—Cloverdale.

Watts was the mayor of Surrey for three terms before deciding to make the jump to federal politics.
