Tiananmen Square is dark, quiet and empty Thursday, a far cry from the chaos of June 4, 1989, when thousands of troops and hundreds of tanks rolled into the iconic square in the heart of Beijing and opened fire on tens of thousands of people to crush six weeks of pro-democracy protests.
