CALGARY – Police said Tuesday a man found dead in a Beltline alley late Sunday night may have been involved in a drug-related fight.
EMS said paramedics were called to an alley behind the Safeway grocery store at 7 Street and 12 Avenue S.W. at around 11:20 p.m. The man was declared dead at the scene.
Homicide detectives didn’t release many details, but said an autopsy was set for Wednesday.
WATCH: Calgary police are investigating after a man was found dead in the Beltline, and while police are remaining tight lipped it’s believe it is the result of a fight. Global’s Gary Bobrovitz reports.
Investigators said the victim, believed to be in his 30s, was robbed of his bag and a suspect fled on foot.
Police said Tuesday there was nothing to indicate it was a random attack, and are looking for one suspect at this point in the investigation.
“We’re looking for a male and at this time—due to the varying reports—we don’t want to put out a description that isn’t completely accurate,” said Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm at an afternoon press conference. “We’re looking to speak to a number of individuals who were in the area at the time.”
Anyone in the area at the time of the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234, the Homicide Unit Tip Line at 403-428-8877 or at Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
