Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle on highway near Wetaskiwin

EDMONTON — A 57-year-old man died Friday night after he was struck by a pickup truck while walking on a road south of Wetaskiwin.

RCMP said the man, who was dressed in dark clothing, was walking down the centre of Township Road 460 when he was struck by a truck heading east toward Highway 2A.

RCMP, EMS and fire crews were called to the scene at around 11:07 p.m.

Police said the man was taken to Wetaskiwin Hospital where he died of his injuries.

The man driving the pickup and his passenger were shaken up, but not physically injured.

RCMP said alcohol and speed were not factors in the collision, but heavy rain and high winds may have reduced the driver’s visibility.

The incident is still under investigation.

Wetaskiwin is located about 70 kilometres south of Edmonton.
