The Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region (RQHR) says they are experiencing challenges with sterilization equipment at the General Hospital but the cause of the problem is still under investigation.

Contingency plans have been put in place to continue as many surgeries as possible while ensuring patient safety. Emergency surgeries will not be interrupted.
“A lot of those areas like labour and birth, we really need to provide because we don’t know what’s coming through the doors,” explained Sandy Euteneier, executive director of surgical services. “That’s why we needed to postpone the procedures we did, so that we can ensure those areas we can’t control that are coming through the door have adequate supplies.”
In May, more than 80 surgeries were postponed at the Pasqua Hospital due to sterilization issues, but Euteneier said the problems are unrelated.
