2 charged after investigation of child neglect in Prince Albert

Police have laid charges after investigating an incident of child neglect in Prince Albert, Sask. Officers were initially called to a break and enter in progress at a residence in the 1100-block of 14th Street West around 12:50 a.m. CT on Sept. 26.

The original call was unfounded; however, police were concerned about the welfare of children inside the residence.

A joint investigation was conducted with members of mobile crisis, Indian child and family services and social services. As a result, police arrested a 41-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man.

They are now facing charges including criminal negligence causing bodily harm, child abandonment, failing to provide the necessities of life to a child under the age of 16 and assault. Their names have not been released at this time.

Both Prince Albert residents are scheduled to make their first appearance in provincial court on Oct. 22.
