Millet mother drowned boys in bathtub according to statement of facts

EDMONTON – In an agreed statement of facts, the mother accused of killing her two sons in her Millet home admits she drowned the toddlers in the bathtub.

Allyson McConnell sat quietly in the prisoner’s box at a Wetaskiwin courtroom as her trial on two charges of second-degree murder got underway Monday.

Ten-month-old Jayden and his two-year-old brother Connor were discovered by their father in the home February 1, 2010.

She has pleaded not guilty, but in an agreed statement of facts introduced in court, she admits to drowning the two children.

The crown says the court will hear about the breakdown of the marriage and how Curtis took steps to make sure Allyson couldn’t return to her native Australia with the children.

It will also hear how Allyson started giving away personal items like a car seat, clothing and a camera.

And there will be more details about Allyson’s suicide attempt hours after the discovery of the boys’ bodies.

Investigators called to the scene testified on the first day of court.  They talked about photos of the house which include a hair dryer in a bathtub full of water and a rope hanging from the ceiling joist.
