Couple who alleged hospital switch baby reunited with child in El Salvador

A mother was reunited with her missing baby late on Monday after she accused hospital staff in El Salvador of switching her newborn with another one.

A British man, Richard Cushworth, and his Salvadoran wife Mercedes Casanellas alleged that a doctor at the hospital where the baby was born had exchanged their child for another in order to sell the child to human traffickers.

“We returned the babies to the legitimate parents,” Luis Martinez, Attorney General of El Salvador said. “That makes us very happy because we at the Attorney General’s office are really moved when we see how many children are torn from their homes.”

Salvadoran Mercedes Casanellas was shown on local television.

Earlier she had spoken of her grief after her baby went missing.
