CALGARY – A Calgary-based company that specializes in energy and environmental waste services announced job cuts Wednesday, citing the economic downturn.
Tervita Corporation, which operates across Canada, said it has reduced its corporate headcount by about 15 per cent. A spokesperson wouldn’t confirm how many jobs or which office was hit the hardest.
“These actions are in response to the prolonged downturn in the energy markets and the resulting decreased activity levels of our customers,” said communications director Cam Hantiuk in an emailed statement.
Hantiuk said not all layoffs are effective immediately.
Tervita was awarded a $45-million government contract to clean up High River, Alta. after the 2013 floods.
