Montreal police officers fined for ‘unethical’ arrest of activist

MONTREAL – A Quebec Superior Court judge has ordered two Montreal police officers to pay activist Jaggi Singh after he was  ‘unethically’ arrest.

Frédéric Mercier and Georges Lamirande have been ordered to pay Singh $15,000 plus interest and costs.

Singh spent five days in jail and had to wait one year before all charges were dropped.

The decision stems from an abusive arrest that took place during an International Women’s Day protest in 2007.
