Coffee shop donates fresh food to people who might be struggling

REGINA – Instead of the traditional non-perishables, a cafe in the Cathedral neighbourhood has introduced a way to donate fresh food to people who have a hard time affording it.

Eat Healthy Foods recently launched its “Suspended Meals and Coffee” program. Customers can pay for an extra coffee or lunch that can later be claimed by someone who can’t afford it.

Store owner Rick Morell launched the program because he wanted to make sure that everyone has access to fresh, healthy meals.

“He (Morell) cares about everybody and he wants everyone to feel safe, fed, well nourished, and to never worry so that they can focus on achieving their dreams,” said employee Kayleigh Rice.

The store keeps a public tally of donated and claimed meals. As of Sunday afternoon, six coffees and two meals have been donated and none have been claimed yet.
