Federal Election 2015: Hochelaga riding results

Summary: Another of the Quebec ridings the NDP are looking to hold in 2015. The victory here in 2011 by Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet broke a long Bloc Québécois streak. She is running for re-election.

Boundaries: This Montreal riding saw only minor boundary changes for this election. It includes part of the borough of Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and part of the borough of Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie.

Last Election: NDP Boutin-Sweet defeated BQ incumbent Daniel Paillé by 17 per cent.

History: This riding was a Bloc Québécois stronghold from 1993 until the NDP win in 2011. Prior to the BQ forming, it had traditionally been a Liberal stronghold, electing the party’s candidate in all but one election between 1917 and 1988.

Demographics: The average income of $30,645 (as of the 2011 National Household Survey) is the ninth lowest in the province.
