Federal Election 2015: Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia-Headingley riding results

Summary: Prominent Conservative MP Steven Fletcher will be looking to win his fifth term in this district, a suburban/rural riding on the western edge of Winnipeg.

Boundaries: The westernmost of Winnipeg’s eight seats, the riding, unsurprisingly, contains Charleswood, St.James-Assiniboia, and Headingley.

Last Election: Fletcher, then Minister of State for Democratic Reform, defeated NDP candidate Tom Paulley by 37.4 per cent.

History: Prior to Fletcher defeating Liberal candidate and former Winnipeg Mayor Glen Murray, the area had elected Progressive Conservative, Liberal, and NDP candidates.

Demographics: The median income is $34,863, the highest in Manitoba. 18.8 per cent of people are seniors, the second highest number in the province.

Conservative: Steven Fletcher, MP since 2004

NDP: Tom Paulley, former campaign manager for Stefan Jonasson, who resigned as the party’s candidate after social media comments of his surfaced in which he compared a practice by one Jewish group to the Taliban.

Green: Kevin Nichols, safety technician for Winnipeg Public Works
