MONTREAL – Some of the city’s romantics want to replicate the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris, famously known for the thousands of love locks that line the fence.

Padlocks signed with lovers’ initials are popping up on the bridge from the Old Port to the Bonsecours basin – but their acts of love may be short lived.
City officials said they won’t be there for long because the structure wasn’t built to support so much weight.

Similarly, Parisian officials have said the love locks were causing long-term damage to the heritage site; last summer a chunk of the Pont des Arts fencing fell off under the weight.
