Friends, family of 2 men who drowned in Harrison Lake release video about dangers of the lake

Friends and family of two men who died while swimming in Harrison Lake are speaking out in a public service announcement.

The emotional video was put together after 25-year-old Gary Duong and 23-year-old Daniel Reid drowned in the lake’s frigid waters in June.

Duong and Reid were two of about 14 people on a raft on Harrison Lake on the afternoon of June 8.

Both ended up in the water, and were later found not to have reached shore by swimming. They were reported missing at that time, but an immediate search of the area was not successful.

On June 18 and 19, the men, both deceased, were spotted by other people on the lake.

The BC Coroners Service and RCMP are investigating.

Now, their loved ones are talking about the dangers of Harrison Lake in a video posted on YouTube.

They want to see signs installed along the shore to warn swimmers and boaters about the winds, currents and cold temperatures.

“It is not your regular lake. You need to be prepared if you go in there,” says one man in the video.

The PSA is urging people to use hashtag #HarrisonAware to talk about the dangers of the lake.
